Genesis of Professional Uses of Technologies by Teachers
Project leader: Jean-Baptiste Lagrange, IUFM ChampagneArdennes, Didirem Université Paris 7
Presentation by Ghislaine Gueudet, CREAD, IUFM Bretagne
Topics studied
ICT use by teachers in classroom and their professional evolution
Design, sharing and uses of numerical resources;
Constitution and evolution of communities around these resources;
Uses of ICT by trainee teachers and young teachers.
A national, interdisciplinary project
A research funded by the ministry of education and research, planned action "education and training" (2005-2008).
Different laboratories involved, in association with different teacher training institutes (IUFM) and the national pedagogical institute (INRP).
Researchers from different fields, half of them in mathematics didactics.
Two favored contexts for the studies
Use of online resources, now spreading in French classrooms.
Trainee teachers, whose attitude towards ICT is generally positive.
Two axes
Axis 1: Instrumental genesis of teachers; uses of ICT and their consequences in terms of evolution of practices and beliefs. Didactical studies.
Axis 2: Institutional acknowledgement of teachers' abilities in ICT, certification (C2i). Socio-cultural and institutional approaches.
Intermediate results axis 1
Articulation of theoretical approaches
Two overarching theories:
Activity theory → learning outcomes
Cognitive ergonomy → constructive activity
Two dimensions in the geneses analysis:
External genesis: evolution of teachers' practices (scenario as indicator).
Internai genesis: evolution of teachers' conceptions and beliefs.
Intermediate results axis 2
Common research objects:
Popular technologies with problematic integration in classrooms: Internet, calculators
Certifications
Teacher trainers
Three couples to guide the genesis analysis:
Skill/Use
Change/Resistance
lncitation/Appropriation
